Wonder Hot Dog & Hamburger Buns

06/25/2012

During preparations for a recent camping trip, I stocked up on rations for our weekend in the woods. Needless to say, hot dog & hamburger buns were a staple in our provisions. Searching the shelves at the store, I located packages of Wonder Brand hot dog and hamburger buns. It turned into a win-win-win situation. They were less expensive and taste better than the other brands and are made by members of the Bakery and Confectionery Workers International Union of America (BCTGM) and delivered to stores by members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters IBT. Next time you need some buns and you're at your unionized grocery stores (like Stater Bros., Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, Food 4 Less), try some Wonder brand buns!

Remember to save some money when you shop at your unionized grocery store. Be sure to scan your Upromise Card and use your Ralphs Rewards Card, Albertson's Preferred Card, Food 4 Less Community Rewards Card or Vons Club Card.

UPDATE: As you've likely heard, the International Bakery Company (the company that made Hostess products) closed due to bad management decisions from inexperienced management staff. Portions of the company (such as the rights to make Hostess Apple Pies, Wonder Bread, Twinkies, etc) were sold to various other companies. And, while you may find Wonder Bread back on store shelves and you can still buy them from unionized retailers likes those listed above, they are no longer union made.

Mickey's Fine Malt Liquor

06/07/2012

So, after learning that Coors isn't 'Union Made' (with the exception of some made on the East Coast), I was in search of a new, favorite beer. Initially, Miller High Life stepped into that role. -Yeah, it's definitely an acquired taste. But recently, I re-discovered Mickey's. Maybe it's nostalgia (let's just say I remember drinking this when I was...around 21) but this stuff is good. And who wouldn't like to drink beer from a 'grenade bottle' with the picture puzzles under each beer cap which miraculously get progressively harder as the night goes on? Anyway, I have a new, number one beer and it's Mickey's. Like many (but not all) domestic beers, it's union made. Both Miller High Life and Mickey's are made by members of the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW). You can find Mickey's at unionized grocery stores such as Vons, where members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) work. -You can even have Vons deliver your beer! How convenient is that?!

Save some money when you shop at Vons. Be sure to scan your Upromise Card and use your Vons Club Card.

AT&T

06/07/2012

Like a lot of people who are cost-conscious, when I got my first cell phone, I signed up with a low cost, month-to-month service. And, while it wasn't an anti-union company, it also wasn't a union company either. So I finally decided I needed a change. I did a little research and found that, for just a little more cash, I could get a lot more in services from a totally unionized wireless carrier, AT&T. I signed up through Upromise and got a $40 college savings account contribution from AT&T. On top of that, union members qualify for a 15% discount on AT&T wireless phone services. Workers at AT&T are members of such unions as the Communication Workers of America (CWA) and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

p.s. I absolutely LOVE my iPhone!

Hostess Fruit Pies

06/03/2012

Yes, I know they have 480 calories but I'm looking at one now and it's absolutely making my mouth water! Hostess Fruit Pies are absolutely the best! If you don't believe me, do a taste test; the next time you're at one of our unionized grocery stores (like Stater Bros., Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, Food 4 Less) and pick up a Mrs. Redds Fruit Pie for about 50 cents and pick up a Hostess Fruit Pie for about $1 (yep, they're twice as much). Then, tear into them and I challenge you to tell me that the Hostess Fruit Pie isn't at least twice as good!! What makes this deal even sweeter is that they're made by our union brothers and sisters in the Bakery and Confectionery Workers International Union of America (BCTGM) and delivered to stores by members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters IBT.

Save some money when you shop at your unionized grocery store.

And, while the price of Hostess Apple Pies is still $1 and you can still buy them from unionized retailers likes those listed above, they are no longer union made.

AllAmericanClothing.com

05/31/2012

Today, I bought some things at All American Clothing. They have a nice selection of clothes and boots. I ordered a pair of stone washed jeans and some shirts. Admittedly, the jeans are a little expensive but they're described as quality jeans, made in America and most items are made by members of UFCW, Local 1099 (now local 75). I'll update once I receive my order.

Use Promo Code: "UnionPlus" for a 10% Discount
Orders of $99 ship FREE

Update: I received my order within a few days. The high caliber of every item is impressive! You can really feel the quality of each of the shirts which are made from 100% cotton. The jeans look and feel great too. It's clear these jeans will last a long time! I'm glad to have opted to get the UFCW patch sewn onto them. I'm sure I'll be ordering from All American Clothing again.
